Growing Garlic Bulbils 2022-2023, series – part 2

Quick update after yesterday’s snowstorm: the bulbils are still looking healthy, and it appears that even more shoots are emerging. Based on their progress so far, it seems that many of the bulbils are thriving in these early stages and can withstand cold winter weather and snow. By the end of the growing season, the bulbils should reach a diameter of about 1/2 to 1 inch, and we can harvest and replant them when we plant next year’s cloves in October/November. Harvesting and replanting will allow the rounds to grow multiple cloves in the next growing season. Although I’m not sure if there are other reasons to harvest and replant, I know it’s a good way to give enough space for our garlic crop.

Next fall, I will also conduct a more thorough count to determine the percentage of bulbils that have germinated.
