Growing Garlic Bulbils – part 13 (13-May-2023).

13-May-2023 – Looking as healthy as ever and some of the shoots are starting to lean over. This patch is the healthiest and going forward I’ll try to plant other patches with the similar setup. Plenty of sun, potting soil mix and good amount of water (this year has had good rain so far so not too much additional watering has been done).
13-May-2023 – Looking healthy as well and maybe spreading them out is a good way to go. However the raised bed patch is still looking healthier overall but I’m not sure if that just has to do with just having more plants in that one.
13-May-2023 – These are looking a little sad and it is clear that they are not performing nearly as well. I will be transplanting these today or tomorrow. The difference with this patch is there is much less sun and there was no soil treatment or potting soil used. I will post pictures of the transplanting process and I’m optimistic about the survival and hopeful thriving after the transplant.

13-May-2023 – Below are pictures of the mature garlic plants approaching scape season. I’ll be doing a test of cutting some of the scapes as they start to curl and leaving some to go to maturity. For the ones that are cut I will compare against the ones we don’t cut for bulb size at the end of the season. For the scapes that go to maturity I will be tracking and hopefully getting a nice bulbils harvest at the end of the season.

Patch #1
Patch #2
Patch #3 – A little more browning on the tips than the other patches. This might indicate the soil and amount of water they have been getting aren’t as good as the other patches. This patch does get a lot of sun so that should be the issue (unless it’s too much sun, but I’m not convinced that the case, but I’ll keep an eye out).
